Putin deploys combat-ready warship equipped with hypersonic missiles

Putin makes decision on Ukraine war

As the battle in Ukraine rages on, Russian President Vladimir Putin has deployed a warship equipped with hypersonic cruise missiles in the direction of the Atlantic and Indian oceans.

On Wednesday, Putin participated in a ceremony marking the launch of the Admiral Gorshkov warship via video conference.

Igor Krokhmal, the commander of the warship, and Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s minister of defence, also participated.

Before directing it to enter combat service, Putin stated “The ship is equipped with the latest hypersonic missile system – ‘Zircon’ – which has no analogues.”

“I would like to wish the crew … success in their service for the good of the Motherland,” he added.

The warship would travel to the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic, and Indian oceans, according to Shoigu.

He added it was capable of delivering “pinpoint and powerful strikes against the enemy at sea and on land”, saying the hypersonic missiles on board could overcome any missile defence system and had a range of more than 1,000 kilometres (620 miles).
