Mercedes-Benz launches its first EV-only showroom in Japan

Mercedes-Benz company in Japan

The first Mercedes-Benz showroom in the whole world devoted to its all-electric Mercedes-EQ brand debuted on Tuesday in Yokohama, south of the Japanese capital, the company’s local unit announced.

Mercedes-Benz has released five electric models since 2019 and said in a statement that it “sees further growth in the electric vehicle market in Japan.”

Although local manufacturers dominate the market in Japan, battery EV adoption has lagged. However, according to the Japan Automobile Importers Association, foreign manufacturers

sold a record 2,357 EVs in November, surpassing a tenth of all imported car sales for the first time (JAIA).

According to JAIA statistics, Mercedes-Benz was the top-selling foreign vehicle brand in Japan last year across all automobile types with sales of 51,722.
