Steve Hanke, a Johns Hopkins University professor, believes Gabby Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), must be from another planet if he believes the Akufo-Addo administration deserves credit for smart economic management despite all the odds.

Mr. Otchere-Darko stated previously that despite a decline in revenues, bills and salaries are being paid.

He added that roads are being fixed, and funding has been found for initiatives like YouStart that aim to provide the teeming youth jobs.

He wrote in a tweet, “The Akufo-Addo government and, in particular, MoF, deserve the nation’s commendation for their handling of the economy in these most challenging times. Despite slump in revenues, bills are being paid, including salaries, roads being fixed, & money found for programmes like YouStart.”

Prof. Hanke, in response, wrote in a tweet: “Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Otchere-Darko says Pres. Akufo-Addo deserves ‘praise’ for his handling of the economy.

“SPOILER ALERT: Otchere-Darko must be on another planet. Today, I measure #Ghana‘s inflation at a stunning 81%/yr.”
