Chief Justice Requests Investigation Into Shooting Incident

The shooting event in court on Wednesday, February 23, was confirmed by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah.

According to a statement released on order of the Chief Justice by Justice Cynthia Pamela A. Addo, Judicial Secretary, it’s the first time such an occurrence has transpired, causing dread and terror. The event is under investigation, according to the statement.

“This is the first time something like this has happened in the courts, and it’s certain to provoke anxiety and terror.” The general public is, however, notified that “thorough investigations are underway, and security measures are being put in place to prevent repetition,” according to the statement.

On Wednesday, February 23, a firearm was accidentally discharged in an Accra High Court.  Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, the sitting judge at the Criminal Court 5, reportedly paused proceedings and fled for her safety.

A jail warden who was guarding a suspect fired his pistol, which resulted in the shooting.
