Bawku: 5 People Detained Over Skirmishes Involving Military

Following a gun fight with the military in Bawku, Upper East Region, on Wednesday morning, killing two civilians and wounding three military officials, 5 people were later arrested captured.

As the injured military officers are being treated, the 5 people are presently being held in police custody to aid with probes. The 2 bodies have been sent to the mortuary of the Bawku Municipal Hospital for autopsy.

All 3 wounded soldiers are from the 11th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, which is based at the Upper East Regional Headquarters in Bolgatanga.

When the incident occurred, they were on special duty to apprehend some folks causing conflict in the region.

“2 persons died, not 3 as stated,” according to Superintendent Simon Akabati, the Bawku Municipal Police Commander.
