Amazon.com to stop hiring in corporate workforce, cites unusual economic environment

Amazon will stop hiring corporate workforce

In order to deal with an “unusual macro-economic environment,” Amazon.com Inc. will stop hiring for its corporate workforce, a company official announced on Thursday.

Beth Galetti, senior vice-president of People Experience and Technology at Amazon, wrote in a blog post, “We anticipate keeping this pause in place for the next few months, and will continue to monitor what we’re seeing in the economy and the business to adjust as we think makes sense.”

Although the company has already stopped hiring in a number of its companies in recent weeks, Galetti added that it still plans to do so next year in a “meaningful” manner.

AWS, Amazon’s cloud business, as well as its retail division have also experienced hiring freezes during the past month, according to many media publications.
